Our foundation of hard work and hospitality runs deep in our roots. Metropolis Resort founders, Tom and Shirley Hahn grew up on farms in Iowa where they learned the value of family and hard work. In the beginning, Tom’s parents sold their farm and opened a grocery store, Hahn’s Circle Foods, in a small town, Grand Mound, IA.
In the early years, Tom bagged groceries and learned the importance of customer service and hospitality from his parents. He married the love of his life, Shirley, in 19xyz. Tom was known for his meat counter and Shirley ran the books. They had two children, Brian and Kim, both raised in their parents’ business. They started bagging groceries and worked their way up into the business, just like their parents. Together these four Hahn’s worked hand in hand for years. They have many stories to tell, all of which end with laughter and fond memories of the people they have met over the years.
The Hahn’s went on many business adventures together. If you could sit and listen to them talk, you would hear stories of many grocery stores, an ice cream parlor, a motel, a laundromat, several Dairy Queens, a marketing firm, real estate and the joys of being landlords.
One of the great adventures started after Tom and Shirley retired. In 2005 they created Action City with another partner. After quick success they added on a Hotel and Waterpark. Now we have the Metropolis Resort, that boasts “Where the Fun Never Stops.”
The Hahn’s have a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome wherever they go. They are known for their hospitality professionally and personally. The legacy that they leave behind is fun. It’s established everywhere they have a presence. A culture of fun is known in each of their businesses. Through it all, you will always hear about how they wouldn’t be where they are today without their customers, family and the team that makes it happen.

Stop into Action City on Saturday mornings to meet Father Christmas himself! Santa Claus will be waiting in his big chair at 11:00am to listen to kids’ holiday wishes. Don’t miss your chance to snap a photo together!
Storytime with Mrs. Claus
Saturdays | Hotel Lobby | 7pm | 11/30 - 12/31
Mrs. Claus is tagging along with Santa this year, and she brought some fun activities! Sit in on her story time reading every Saturday at 7:00pm, and stick around to decorate cookies with her afterwards.
Chippie and Charli
Santa needs someone to keep an eye on all kids at the Resort while he's not here. Chippie & Charli will be here all month long to keep an eye on the place (and maybe cause some mischief). They don't like to sit still, so chances are they'll move around when you're not looking. Keep you eyes peeled to see if you can spot them!
Splasharoo
Our favorite outback buddy, Splasharoo, can’t wait to celebrate the holidays with you! There's nowhere else he'd rather be than at Metropolis Resort for Christmas. He's eager and ready for all the festivities!
Holiday Stay Add-Ons (featuring The Grinch!)

This holiday season, we're excited to offer some new festive add-ons to make your stay at Metropolis Resort even more special. You can now add a pre-decorated Christmas tree to your hotel room, bringing the warmth and magic of the holidays right to your home away from home! We want to give you and your family a cozy space to gather and open presents without any extra effort.
For those looking to add even more to the experience, we’re also offering an optional special appearance from The Grinch! Last year, The Grinch was a popular character around the resort, and this year, he can make a surprise visit to your room, sneaking in to "steal" the Christmas tree right in front of your family. It's a playful and memorable moment, perfect for creating some holiday laughs!
If you would like the Grinch to steal your tree, just let the front desk know and we will help set up the perfect time.
